ABOUT ME
As a Person-Centred Counsellor I offer the three core conditions which are:
EMPATHY
Is about understanding what is going on for you, especially when you feel misunderstood, alone, distressed, or confused. This is very different from sympathy.
CONGRUENCE
Is about encountering the realness of the situation, how genuine you feel you are or may want to be, but for whatever reason are prevented from being truly yourself. I hope through Counselling you experience me as a genuine person.
UPR
UPR is short for Unconditional Positive Regard. As a counsellor I will offer you a non-judgemental attitude, so that you can experience an acceptance and understanding of what you wish to share. Often in Counselling people will share thoughts and feelings for the first time that may have been ‘bottled up’ or denied, this in itself can be a great relief to say to another person. For this to happen a trusting relationship needs to be established, which includes confidentiality both in the counselling session and keeping client details and notes safe and in a locked filing cabinet. I will keep notes for a 5 year period after this they will be shredded.
Person-Centred Counselling is one type of Counselling which many people find really beneficial but there are also many other types of Counselling such as CBT or Psychodynamic counselling, depending on what your needs are. It is important to find what suits you and that you feel comfortable with the Counsellor you chose, if it doesn’t feel right then trust your instinct.
